Design media group The Pixel Design Media Group has recently been given a green light to produce new design media, with the first print edition due in March 2018.
This will be the group’s first attempt at a digital magazine since launching its online publication, Design Media in 2005.
The group’s website design has been criticised by some for being too “digital” and lacking in any sort of “professionalism”.
It’s not the first time the group has been accused of being too digital, but it’s certainly the most prominent example.
This has caused some concern amongst design journalists and others in the design media.
“Pixel design is a very big, diverse and diverse media,” said Matt Kockel, a senior lecturer in media design at Manchester Metropolitan University.
“It’s really easy to get stuck in a narrative about the way people consume media.
The reality is that people consume a lot more media than that.”
“It takes an artist to understand the way that the viewer is going to use their media, to get them to look at their design media in a different way.”
The group hopes to publish print editions of its first issue by the end of the year, with a new digital edition to follow by spring 2019.
In the meantime, its designers will continue to work on the group website and create content for a new print magazine called Pixel Design.
“The Pixel Design media is an important part of the design and media community and will hopefully serve as a platform for our media,” Kockels partner and Pixel Design member Michael Whelan said.
“I think it’s important for design journalists to look into what our medium is doing to people’s minds and emotions and that they’re not just looking at the latest design or the latest tech.”
