A new VR camera toolkit has been unveiled, allowing you to quickly capture VR footage on your phone or tablet using a variety of VR capture tools.
The new app is called Motion Media Design, and it aims to make it easy to design your Android devices into VR cameras, a concept that has been a staple of mobile VR since the HTC Vive launched back in 2015.
“This is really a toolkit that you can use to create your own VR camera,” said Ben Trew, VP of Product at motion media design firm.
“You can add customizations and tools, and also make it as simple as possible to control how your phone looks.”
You can control the angle of the view by tilting the device to the right or left, or by moving the phone’s left or right edge.
The software can also be configured to adjust the view’s brightness, contrast and depth of field, and to enable or disable HDR for a 360-degree video experience.
The app can also let you control the speed at which you’re capturing a video, adjust the focus and even allow you to create a custom filter.
The goal is to make VR videos look and feel good in real life, said Trew.
“I think this is a very exciting and unique opportunity for the VR camera, because it will be much more than just being a way to record your experiences.
It will also be a way for people to share experiences.”
You’ll need to create an account to use the app, but Trew said it was designed for people who want to make sure they’re using the right hardware to capture VR content.
“The main thing that’s going to be important is to have a good camera and have good VR software, because VR will be something that’s incredibly immersive,” he said.
“This will allow you, for example, to get into a game where the only difference is the camera angle.”
The app works by allowing you the ability to choose different camera settings, which are applied by the app.
Trew says there’s no way to change the lens of the device, but you can adjust the lens in a couple of ways, such as moving the device from one side to the other or changing the lens tilt.
The company also said the app will be “very easy to use,” because it’s based on Google’s Android app development toolkit, and can be opened directly from the Google Play store.
The feature is just the first in a series of new tools that the company is developing for VR.
Tuck said the company plans to launch more tools in the future, including an app for Android devices, a VR controller, and a “virtual camera” that you’ll be able to use with your phone.
Tuck says he’s already worked with some of the major hardware manufacturers on how to create VR cameras for their devices, and he said there’s been interest from HTC, Oculus and Valve, among others.
“These are really big companies,” Tuck told Polygon.
“There’s a lot of excitement around the possibilities.
I think they’re going to start to see these devices become a real reality.”
Trew said he’s hoping to launch the app for more devices this year, including phones, and added that it’ll likely be available on other Android-powered devices as well.
The App Store will also have a “VR Camera App of the Week” that will show developers what the best VR apps are currently working on.
